After a long hiatus, Maureen Martin has resumed posting at CatholicNews.org. I've placed her link firmly in the Humor section of my blog roll. If you've never read her blog before, do spend some time browsing through her archives. One of my personal favorites is Man Gets Birthday Wish, Church Ceases to Exist. So is Wal-mart Superstores to Introduce Church Services this Fall.

Happy Easter, Bibliophagist! =)
I'm afraid the Superstore Church Services article hit too close to home for me. Supermalls in the Philippines have been having regular Sunday Masses for years. "Parishioners" are happy to take advantage.
Sometimes there is an actual chapel (complete with tabernacle) in the mall; but given the number of mass goers on Sundays, the spill over into the shopping area is so huge that mall personnel also turn off the piped music and set out monobloc chairs. Malls without a chapel just set up Mass in the atrium or something.
Of course, whenever I gripe about it to a friend or relative, I get some pseudo-pantheist comment about how "God is everywhere" and sometimes the quote "Wherever two or three are gathered in My name . . ." for good measure. While it might be a bit cheering to know that thousands don't let shopping get in the way of their Sunday obligations any longer, it's overwhelmingly depressing to think that those same thousands have lost the sense of the sacredness of exactly what is owed to God. =(
Well, this wasn't a very cheery comment for Eastertide, was it? =P I'm sorry about that, Bibliophagist, and will attempt to be more positive from now on!
Actually, a lot of her blog posts hit rather close to home.
A Happy Easter to you too!
